Davis Cup captain John Lloyd is confident Andy Murray will be fit for Great Britain's relegation clash with Poland, which starts on Friday.
The British No1 injured his left wrist losing to Marin Cilic in the fourth round of the US Open last week but was back on court today practising at the Liverpool arena where the tie will be held.
Murray looked listless against Cilic and his fitness is critical to the team's chances of beating the Poles, who lack a front-line singles threat but have the doubles pairing of Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg, who are ranked No11 in the world.
Lloyd said: "Andy is out there hitting two-handed backhands, which is very encouraging, and I don't see his wrist being a problem in terms of competing in this tie that we have to win."
Lloyd has a six-man squad to choose from and is likely to name 19-year-old Dan Evans as the second singles player alongside Murray.
However, he added: "We are still waiting to discover the Polish line-up for the singles and we will not finalise our singles players until the draw is made on Thursday."
Britain have won their seven previous meetings with the Poles but defeat for Lloyd's men would mean dropping down to Euro/Africa Group Two for the first time since 1996.
