Tiger has last laugh after Mickelson win
28 Sep 2009Phil Mickelson got the better of Tiger Woods at the Tour Championship in Atlanta but could not stop the world No1 being crowned FedEx Cup champion.
Mickelson picked up the £850,000 first prize thanks to a final-round, five-under-par 65 that reeled in overnight leader Kenny Perry, who had begun the day four shots in front, and gave him a three-stroke victory over Woods.
However, Woods did enough with his closing level-par 70 to claim second place and with it the FedEx Cup title and a £6.3million bonus.
Mickelson joked: "I don't know if I understand this right but I shot 65 and Tiger shot 70 and he gets the big cheque."
He then added: "I've got no problem with that. I felt that the day turned out well."
