Nelson Piquet Jr ponders move to pick-up truck racing

Nelson Piquet Jr is considering a switch to NASCAR's pick-up truck racing series as he looks for a way back into motorsport in the wake of Crashgate.

Although the former Renault driver was not punished for deliberately crashing his car at last year's Singapore Grand Prix, his chances of returning to Formula One next season seem remote. It was announced today the Brazilian and IndyCar Series driver Vitor Meira will test for Red Horse Racing at Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina on Monday. Red Horse said 24-year-old Piquet planned to "evaluate a future career among the NASCAR ranks".

Team owner Tom DeLoach said: "It's not easy to go from an open wheel background to racing stock cars but they are both immensely talented and have the ability to be successful."
