Ugo Monye tries to inspire Harlequins with brave talk

Ugo Monye returns to action with a battle cry for Harlequins as they prepare to face Toulouse in a Heineken Cup match they cannot afford to lose.

A selection gamble meant Monye missed Saturday's 20-6 defeat to Cardiff Blues but he believes his side can bounce back at The Stoop to claim a victory as big as last season's double over Stade Francais.

He said: "We aren't scared of anyone and will show our true potential on Saturday."

Under the Elite Player Squad agreement, England stars must be rested for one match before next month's Tests but Quins' poor start to the Guinness Premiership season meant head coach John Kingston could not afford to omit Monye, Nick Easter and Danny Care from the side in the domestic competition.

That meant leaving the trio out of the match in Cardiff in the hope those called up could pull off a win against a Welsh team beset by injury worries.

Those problems increased during the match, but the hosts found a way of repelling a late flourish from a Quins side badly missing the cutting edge provided by Monye and Care plus the experience Easter brings to the forward battle.

All three England players have to provide the inspiration against a Toulouse side who easily accounted for Sale Sharks 36-17 yesterday to confirm their status as Pool Five favourites. Monye is desperate to maintain his form and keep his place on the England wing for the November internationals.

He said: "The Toulouse match is a huge test and we need to show our true potential. It is the biggest challenge of the season but this squad has never been frightened or scared of that kind of challenge.

"I am pleased with my form, having played a bit at full-back as well and this match will be as close to international rugby as it's possible to get. Toulouse will be a really good barometer for the club and players.

"It was frustrating to miss the Cardiff game but now it's happened I can get back into action."
