Daniel Keatings's silver lining

16.10.09

Daniel Keatings created gymnastics history at the O2 Arena by winning Britain's first medal in the men's all-around event at a World Championships.

The Kettering 19-year-old finished second behind Japan's Kohei Uchimura.

"It's crazy. It was a dream and now it's a reality," Keatings said. "I was just hoping to make the final."

Wolverhampton's Kristian Thomas took sixth place in an event which combines the floor, pommel horse, high bar, rings, parallel bars and vault disciplines.

Before last night no British man had reached the top 10 in the all-around event at this level.

"It is out of this world - I'm speechless," added Keatings, who was a silver medallist at the European Championships earlier this year. "It has given me an idea of what it will be like at the Olympics in 2012."
