Fit again: Simon Shaw will play against Leeds

Simon Shaw's back in running for England

London Wasps director of rugby Tony Hanks believes fit-again Simon Shaw could be in the frame for England's final two autumn internationals.

The lock has been sidelined with a metatarsal injury and has not played since the Lions tour.

But Hanks confirmed today that Shaw should return for Wasps on Sunday in their Guinness Premiership match against Leeds Carnegie at Adams Park.

Shaw was left out of Martin Johnson's revised England squad, released on Monday, for the November Tests against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand.

But Hanks believes the 36-year-old may still be called upon by Johnson.

"I think they'll look at Shawsy," said Hanks. "He hasn't played since the Lions and that was a while back. Shawsy himself feels he needs to get some rugby.

"With most players you'd say 'no chance' but Simon Shaw is not a normal player. I think if he comes through the next two weeks feeling like he is ready, then you put him in."

Hanks, meanwhile, dismissed reports two of his stars - Danny Cipriani and Tom Varndell - have been left out of Johnson's squad because of their attitudes.

Fly-half Cipriani was not considered for the autumn Tests because of an ankle injury while Varndell has been ignored despite starting the Premiership season well.

"There's nothing to suggest that England have a blacklist," added Hanks.
