Huge presence: Wasps lock Simon Shaw can play a big part for England again after recovering from his foot injury

Simon Shaw shows he is fit for immediate Test recall

Simon Shaw collected a yellow card but did enough yesterday in Wasps' 24-20 victory over London Irish in the LV Cup to warrant an immediate recall to the England squad for the match with Argentina next weekend.

Shaw has played no more than the equivalent of one full game since recovering from a foot injury but the lock's physical presence is just what England need and if they don't use him against the Pumas, he will be ready to play in the clash with New Zealand on 21 November.

Tony Hanks, the Wasps director of rugby, said: "Shawsy is feeling all right. The foot's fine, and he's got a spring in his step at the moment.

"We know he's a big man, but sometimes he looks so much bigger than the others - he has that presence about him."

David Strettle hopes to be fit to rejoin the England squad after suffering a back injury scoring the opening try for Harlequins in their 15-15 draw with Scarlets, also in the LV Cup. In the same competition, Premiership leaders Saracens recorded a 30-22 Cup win over Bath with Glen Jackson kicking 20 points.

Meanwhile, All Black outside-half Dan Carter will appear before a disciplinary hearing tonight accused of an alleged dangerous tackle on Wales scrum-half Martin Roberts.

Carter collected 14 points in the 19-12 win in Cardiff. Anything more than a one-week ban would see him miss the England Test.
