Jones agrees Derbyshire deal

10 Nov 2009

Much-travelled veteran seamer Steffan Jones has signed a two-year contract with Derbyshire following a successful spell on loan from Somerset.

The 35-year-old spent the second half of last season at the County Ground, taking 30 wickets in nine matches - and also scoring two half-centuries down the order.

The Welshman - who has played for Glamorgan, Northamptonshire and Kent in his 12-year career so far - will also take on a role coaching the Derbyshire bowlers.

Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris said: "Steffan has been an excellent addition to our bowling attack since we brought him in on loan, and we are delighted to have secured his services on a more permanent basis.

"Batsmen always know they are in a battle when Steffan is bowling at them, and his excellent level of fitness and professionalism is a fine example to other cricketers."
