Sean Lamont backing Andy Robinson

11 Nov 2009

Sean Lamont believes Scotland are heading for a brighter future under the leadership of Andy Robinson.

The English coach takes charges of his first game on Saturday, when the Scots take on Fiji at Murrayfield, and the Scarlets winger says Robinson has made a huge difference.

"Andy has definitely instilled a lot more player power," he added.

"He's got defence leaders, attack leaders, so he's definitely about empowering the players; he's guiding the ship but he definitely wants the players to power it themselves. He's very intense in his rugby but he's a great coach."

There have been many false dawns in Scottish rugby in recent years but Lamont, whose brother Rory will also be playing at full-back on Saturday, insists the side have what it takes to lay the foundation for a genuine Scotland resurgence during the November Tests.

He added: "We're setting out to win all three games and if we play to our structures and stick to our game plans, then there's no reason why we can't."
