London blow for Nikolay Davydenko but Robin Soderling still has hope

Nikolay Davydenko missed the chance to seal his place in the Barclays World Tour Finals today but Robin Soderling kept alive his slim hopes of qualifying by beating the Russian at the Paris Masters.

Victory in the third-round clash would have given Davydenko one of the final two places at the endof-season finale in London later this month.

However, a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 defeat to the Swede means Davydenko's fate is now out of his hands. The Russian gifted his opponent two match points with an unforced error and hit a backhand long on the first to bow out.

Soderling, the world No10, needs to reach at least the final this week to book a trip to London while Fernando Verdasco, of Spain, and Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are also in contention.
