Whitgift claim schools' rugby award

17 Nov 2009

Whitgift's flying start to the season has won them the Standard's October School Team of the Month award.

The Croydon school completed a highly successful tour of New Zealand, winning five out of six, before tackling domestic opposition. Danny Cipriani's former school have beaten Wellington, KCS and Tonbridge and are building a promising Daily Mail cup campaign with a fourth-round win over neighbours and rivals John Fisher, last year's Evening Standard Team of the Year.

Coach Chris Wilkins said: "We have three players in the England U18 mix and many more coming through so it's a real team effort."

Other contenders were St Pauls, who have their strongest team for a number of seasons, Ryde from the Isle of Wight, early leaders Cranbrook, and Forest from Bucks.

Whitgift players receive vouchers from new sponsors, rugby fashion brand Front Up, in partnership with http://www.schoolsrugby.co.uk/

Front Up managing director Jon Allen said: "As somebody who fell in love with rugby at school I understand how important match write ups are in developing your affiliation with the sport.

SchoolsRugby.co.uk delivers an excellent online forum and we're delighted to partner the Evening Standard Super XV School Leagues and to be able to offer clothes from our range to each Team of the Month”.
