Trott to open for England

22 Nov 2009

Jonathan Trott was set to open for England at Centurion against South Africa today, in only his second one-day international.

England's new batting find replaced Joe Denly - alongside captain Andrew Strauss - at the top of the order, against his native country.

As expected, Paul Collingwood was also named for his 171st appearance at this level - therefore becoming England's most-capped ODI player, ahead of former captain Alec Stewart.

There was no place, though, for off-spinner James Tredwell - England preferring Adil Rashid's leg-breaks after all.

Among the seamers, Sajid Mahmood was given an opportunity in an attack led by fit-again Jimmy Anderson.

Strauss won the toss and chose to bowl first in sunny conditions for this second fixture of a five-match series - which began with a Wanderers washout two days ago.

South Africa's team selection was as anticipated, Hashim Amla replacing the injured Jacques Kallis to open with captain Graeme Smith.
