Crusaders to reveal new look

15 Dec 2009

Crusaders are set to shed light on their Super League move north and explain their links with newly-formed Championship club South Wales.

The old Celtic Crusaders club are expected to outline the details of their ground-sharing agreement with Wrexham FC at a noon press conference at the Racecourse Ground, which is the venue for the opening match of engage Super League XV between the Welsh club and defending champions Leeds Rhinos.

The Crusaders are expected to announce a new name and unveil a host of new signings with the start of the new season less than seven weeks away.

Former Hull hooker Tommy Lee is the only newcomer so far announced by head coach Brian Noble and his new-look backroom team but they are thought to have negotiated deals with several overseas players.

A consortium led by Wrexham FC chairman Geoff Moss have taken over the Super League franchise from Leighton Samuel, the man who was behind the club's launch in Bridgend in 2006 but became frustrated by the lack of further investment in South Wales.

The club had intended to move from the Brewery Field to Newport's Rodney Parade but will now play the bulk of their home matches at the Racecourse Ground, the rest taking place "on the road" in South Wales.

Further details will also be disclosed about the newly-formed South Wales RL club who were last Friday given the green light to take part in Championship One in 2010.

Based at the Gnoll, Neath, the club are expected to field an exclusive Welsh team, drawing players from the Crusaders' reserve team and the Welsh national team that lifted the European Cup in November.

A consortium of Welsh businessmen, led by Phil Davies and Wales Rugby League chairman Mark Rowley, will run the new club and are this week interviewing for a head coach.
