Five Catalans Dragons players arrested

8 Feb 2010

Five players from French Super League club Catalans Dragons have been arrested following an alleged brawl in Leeds city centre.

The five were detained by police while their team-mates returned to France following yesterday's 28-20 defeat by Wakefield in their first game of the Engage Super League season.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire police confirmed that nine men in all are in custody and that two men were taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

The incident was captured on CCTV at 2.15am in Boar Lane in Leeds city centre.

In a statement, the Dragons said: "The club are co-operating fully with the police in their investigations. The club will make no further comment at this stage."

News of the incident comes less than three weeks since six Huddersfield players were arrested and bailed following rape allegations during the club's pre-season training camp in Newcastle.
