Walters keen to bolster Catalans squad

20 Mar 2010

Catalans coach Kevin Walters has admitted an interest in Wakefield playmaker Danny Brough as he looks to bolster his threadbare squad.

The struggling French side have been ravaged by injuries this season and the shock news that stand-off Adam Mogg wants to leave.

Influential Wildcats scrum-half Brough has been heavily linked with a move to Huddersfield but the Dragons could make a late bid to tempt him to Perpignan.

Another player in Walters' mind is Ulster rugby union's former Canberra back Clinton Schifcofske, but he looks poised for a move to Super League rivals Crusaders.

Walters said: "We are always interested in quality players and those two fall into that category.

"With Adam moving on there is a position there for someone to come in and fill a space, and we will be pursuing that in the next couple of weeks. With the injuries we have got we need to strengthen again, and we will do that with a quality player."

Walters was taken aback by Mogg's request to be released with 20 months remaining on his contract.

The 32-year-old, who joined the Dragons in 2007, is thought to be homesick and has received an offer to rejoin former club Canberra.

Walters added: "It does come as a surprise but Adam has got his thoughts and ideas on what he wants to do. I suppose it was a bit of a shock but it's been a bit of a shocking start to the season."

Catalans lost for the sixth time in seven Engage Super League games in going down 14-6 at Crusaders on Friday night.
