Andy Murray content despite falling at final hurdle
2 Aug 2010Andy Murray missed out on his first title of the year last night but claimed just reaching the final of the Farmers Classic was an achievement in itself.
The world No4 lost 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 against second seed Sam Querrey at the end of a week which began with him sacking coach Miles Maclagan.
Murray performed erratically on his way to the final and squandered the chance to seal the title with a match point in the second set.
Nevertheless, the Scot was reasonably content with the way things went.
Murray said: It was a good week. Disappointed to lose but if you take the circumstances into consideration I have to be happy with getting to the final.
I had a good week, I enjoyed it. Each match I felt better physically. I played reasonably well against Sam, better than the other matches.
However, this was Murray's first defeat against the American in five matches, so Querrey savoured the moment. I really hadn't had a close match with him before this, said the world No20.

CHOKER, CHOKER, CHOKER !
I feel better after that!!; question is why we don't take tennis seriously in the UK. Sure, we are smothered in Wimbledon during the Fortnight, but when all but one of the Brits have been mopped-up then that's it.
All my local tennis courts (council-owned & private) are in use all day every day as long as the daylight holds but attempts to move this interest onto a higher level never seem to get going. There is more to life than football (yes, really)

Having earned $10,000,000 as a 'journeyman' where's the incentive to push on?
He hasn't the ability, temperament or steel to succeed at the highest level.

Presume World Number 3 and 2 Grand Slam finals aren't high enough?
Maybe he won't win a GS but the lad is much better than Tin "Timid" Henman.

Would have thought he should have beaten allcomers at the Farmers Classic - most farmers I know are overweight and wouldn't know which end of the racquet to hold......

Never mind Sweaty, at least your providing us English the chance to take up the Scottish (I have a english chip on my shoulder)hobby of "supporting the other nation". Shame same can't be said about your football team as you never qualify for anything..
