Captains to discuss possibility of Lord's staging first day-night Test match

10 Jul 2009

More than a dozen former international captains will discuss whether Test cricket should be played under floodlights when they meet at Lord's next week.

The MCC's world cricket committee have no decision-making powers but with members like Steve Waugh, Mike Atherton, Courtney Walsh and Rahul Dravid on board, their recommendations to the International Cricket Council always carry plenty of weight.

The ICC are keen to explore the possibility of playing the highest level of the game under lights and there has been talk of Lord's staging the first day-night Test next year.

Working out what colour the ball should be - with red discounted and both pink and lime green seen as possibilities - remains a big issue and the MCC are due to receive the latest research results next week.

Lalit Modi, boss of the Indian Premier League, is also due at the Lord's meeting to discuss the future of Twenty20 cricket.
