While players do not make reading the Laws of Cricket a high priority, Strauss should be well aware of the preamble which reinforces the spirit of cricket. It says in part: “The major responsibility for ensuring the spirit of fair play rests with the captains.”

So whether the attempt to waste time was his idea or not, he wears it.
