30 Sep 2009

Former England batsman Marcus Trescothick has been named the most valuable player for 2009 by the Professional Cricketers' Association.

The Somerset opener scored 2,934 runs across all competitions to earn a points total of 632 in the PCA's ratings system, 50 more points than his nearest challenger Ian Blackwell.

Durham all-rounder Blackwell, formerly of Somerset, enjoyed a fine season with his new county, scoring 1,314 runs and taking 69 wickets.

Somerset wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter was third in the table, which awards points for a number of factors including batting, bowling, fielding, captaincy, games played and games won.

Trescothick was comfortably the top run-scorer, 587 ahead of Jonathan Trott of Warwickshire and England, while Kent's Danish Kaneria was highest wicket-taker with 108.
