Abuse: South Africa-born Pietersen

Boo-boys ready to target Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen

Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott have been warned they will face a hostile reception on England's winter tour of South Africa for turning their backs on their homeland.

Pietersen decided to represent England after criticising the selection process in South Africa and suffered relentless abuse from the home crowds during the 2004-05 one-day series against the Proteas, with the welcome likely to be just as hot on this occasion.

Trott was born in Cape Town and played for South Africa at Under 15 and Under-19 level - but the Warwickshire batsman followed Pietersen's example by choosing to qualify for England.

"The South African public will probably get on their backs, and how they react depends on them," said Proteas batsman Ashwell Prince. "But KP is probably someone who would be motivated by that, so maybe our public shouldn't get on his back too much."

Both England's captain and wicket-keeper were also born in South Africa but Andrew Strauss and Matt Prior moved to these shores aged six and 11 respectively, and are unlikely to be barracked as traitors by the South African fans.

The squads for both the limited-overs and Test matches will be announced at midday tomorrow.
