Veteran off-spinner Jason Brown will have to search for a third county in as many years, after being released by Nottinghamshire.

Thirty-five-year-old Brown signed a two-year deal when he joined Nottinghamshire from Northamptonshire at the start of the 2009 season.

But a calf injury curtailed his contributions - and Brown, who toured Sri Lanka with England in 2000-01, is setting his sights on "regular cricket" again after being released halfway through his deal at Trent Bridge.

Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell said: "Jason was unfortunate to suffer injury at a time when he could have played a significant part in limited-overs cricket. But we feel that the time is right for him to move on given the signing of [spinning all-rounder] Graeme White [from Northamptonshire].

"It has been a frustrating year for him. But there was no lack of effort on his part, and I'm sure he'll find another county. We wish him every success for the future."

Brown added: "I've enjoyed my time at Trent Bridge - but at this stage of my career, I need to play regular cricket.

"I'm over my injury and I want to be in a position where I can begin next season in contention for a place in a county first team."
