Lord's lose double Test status in 2012

Lord's will lose a Test match in 2012 as cricket chiefs try to spread games around the country.

The "home of cricket" traditionally stages two Tests a summer but Standard Sport understands the St John's Wood ground, with its iconic weathervane will miss out on England's clashes against West Indies.

Instead those matches will be at Headingley, The Brit Oval and another ground to be confirmed in the early part of the summer.

Lord's will host South Africa in August 2012 but the new fixture list has caused some tension between the England and Wales Cricket Board and the ground's owners, the Marylebone Cricket Club.

However, the ECB's decision reflects their policy of sharing games around. Last year Cardiff hosted an Ashes Test for the first time with Old Trafford missing out on the clash with Australia for only the third time in 150 years.

Meanwhile, Stuart Broad is expected to play in tomorrow's Second Test against Bangladesh after returning to training following a stomach bug.

The seamer sat out yesterday's net session through illness but captain Alastair Cook said: "Broady took a full part in training, so he is expected to be fully fit. The medical team have seen him this morning and, hopefully, the bug has totally gone."

Broad's fitness is crucial to an England side whose pace attack is already missing the injured trio of James Anderson, Graham Onions and Ryan Sidebottom.
