ESPN sets TV launch date for new season

ESPN has announced that its new sports channel showing live Premier League football will kick off on 3 August.

Following the demise of Setanta Sports, the Disney-backed company won the rights to 46 matches for the 2009-2010 campaign and 23 for each of the three seasons after that.

The channel will also show US sports previously provided on ESPN America and will be available in high definition. ESPN said Sky Sports subscribers will pay £9 a month for the channel while other Sky customers will be charged £12.
