Charlton wait on take over bid

9 Jul 2009

Charlton look set to be taken over by a group of investors represented by former chief executive Peter Varney.

It is understood that Varney, who left The Valley in 2008, is fronting a consortium poised to take control in a multi-million pound deal within the next two weeks.

Charlton, relegated from the Championship at the end of the season, are believed to have debts of around £40million.

Chairman Richard Murray and Derek Chappell, chairman of the club's parent plc, have postponed this week's question-and-answer evening at The Valley after receiving extensive legal advice.

"The current situation means we would have been unable to answer or contribute to many of the likely main points of discussion," said Murray.

are we going to have to suffer another long drawn out affair with this alleged take over bid for charlton fc, or is this just a ploy to enhance the season ticket sales, and then just find that the alleged takeover has not materialised. it is about time that the club levels with their outstanding loyal fans, and keep themm informed like southampton has done, this supposed takeover has been going on since april 24th and has been shrouded in secrecy. why? we the fans now find that we are not sure who the manager is going to be, who owns the club, who is in our team, as likewise neither do the players. hardly conditions that gives confidence to anybody connected to the club be they fans or players please please please tell us something.
