David Beckham would consider a return to the Barclays Premier League - despite having said he would never play for an English side other than Manchester United.

The 34-year-old was speaking in California where he has returned to link up with the Los Angeles Galaxy after a spell in Serie A playing for AC Milan.

Beckham is desperate to play in next year's World Cup and admits he would ponder a move back to his homeland if it would increase his chances.

"I would definitely consider it," Beckham said.
"Never say never. When I left United, I said I would never want to play for another English club.

"My heart was in Manchester - and I couldn't see myself wearing another shirt in the Premiership and playing against United. Now I wouldn't rule it out."

More likely is a return to Milan, where he impressed then coach Carlo Ancelotti, now with Chelsea, with his fitness and professionalism.

"Obviously Milan expressed that they want me to go back, so I don't see any reason why that would change," he said.

"We'll have to wait and see. I hope to be going back there."

Meanwhile, Beckham has been making peace with Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan, who recently questioned the midfielder's commitment.

Beckham had a meeting with Donovan and manager Bruce Arena on his return and said: "I'm not going to talk about what was said. That was between me, Landon and the manager but we had a good talk."

The former England skipper wore the captain's armband during his first season and a half at the Galaxy but saw Arena return it to Donovan in his absence. He said he was fine with that decision but did defend his leadership skills.

"At the end of the day, that's something to ask all the players," Beckham said. "I've always felt as captain I've made myself available for players and been there for the team. I've been captain for England for over 50 caps, and I've gotten on really well with the players.

"Landon's a good captain. He's a captain that leads by example. He's not a captain like myself that goes shouting at people.

"Every captain's different. Landon leads by example, by how he plays on the field."

Donovan, too, said he considered the matter closed and that he was convinced the episode would be a positive in a campaign which has seen the Galaxy win their last three games to move closer to a first play-off place in the Beckham era.

"We're getting past it, we're moving on," Donovan said. "There's a lot of things I regret. I regret the way that I went about this process and I also regret some of the things I said.

"Some good will come out of it. I really believe that. I believe we're getting to the bottom of things we needed to get to. We're on the right path, and I'm excited about that."

Beckham also stressed his desire to see out his five-year MLS contract, which began in 2007.

"I intend to stay until the end of my contract and maybe further," he said.

"I've always said that. I've always said, even when I went to Milan, that I'm committed to the Galaxy and to MLS, and that hasn't changed."
