Spurs still pursuing Arjen Robben move
15 Jul 2009Tottenham still have high hopes of buying Arjen Robben despite the player's father dismissing the chances of a move.
The winger is no longer wanted by Real Madrid, who need to recoup some of the £180million they have spent this summer.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy met Real officials last month, which raised speculation of a move for Robben only for it then to be played down by his father and agent Hans.
However, Spurs have not given up as it is believed the former Chelsea player is keen on a return to London.

Sounds like typical Spurs for me trying to get players of the calibre of Young and Robben who realistically are already playing for bigger clubs.

Keep it quite but, Glen Hoddle is still better than a lot of young guys out there. Just maybe we could get him to play next to Pat V. Shhhh!

I am rather curious to know at what time and day Daniel Levy gets the hat out and asks Harry Redknapp to pick out his next player, perhaps it could be televised just like the FA cup draw.

Not an option.
This guy is a spoilt brat and it's noticable that Chelski haven't been linked with him.
Let him stay in Spain or Italy where he belongs.
I'm sure some big European Club will find a treatment table for him.

Robben simply does not want to come, whatever the wishes of Madrid to off-load him. This view was expressed through his mouthpiece, his father.
He's not going to join Spurs - end of story.

I THINK WHATEVER PLAYERS ARE AVAILABLE THIS SUMMER FOR ANY CLUB ARE PROVING HARD TO GET HOLD OF, WHICH LEAVES SLIM PICKINGS FOR CLUBS THAT DONT HAVE MUCH MONEY LIKE US. WHY ON EARTH WOULD ROBBEN GO FROM REAL MADRID TO SPURS, WE ARE NOT EVEN IN EUROPE AND SURELY CANNOT MATCH HIS WAGE DEMANDS AND AMBITION FOR CHAMPIUONS LEAGUE. I THINK OUR PROBLEM IS THE CUPBOARDS ARE BARE MONEY WISE, AND WE CANNOT COMPETE AS THE BEST PLAYERS AVAILABLE ARE ALL FLOCKING TO MAN CITY FOR RIDICULOUS SALARIES. SO WE ARE RESORTING TO 33 YEAR OLD FREE TRANSFER REJECTS FROM ARSENAL WHICH SMACKS OF DESPERATION AND PERHAPS REDKNAPP CANNOT WHEAL AND DEAL AS HE THOUGHT THIS SUMMER. I AM GLAD DOWNING HAS GONE TO VILLA, DEFINATELY NOT GOOD BUSINESS AT £12 MILLION. I AM SLIGHTLY CONCERNED WE ARE GOING TO END UP WITH NOBODY COMING IN OF ANY NOTE BUT THEN AGAIN WE HAVE THE SQUAD CAPABLE OF A GOOD SEASON WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY ANYONE AS LONG AS WE DONT SELL ANYMORE PLAYERS. EVEN MAN UTD HAVE HARDLY LIT THE BLUE TOUCH PAPER WITH THEIR SIGNINGS, I THINK FERGUSON HAS LOST THE PLOT BRINGING IN OWEN.

I really can't see Robben returning to England - he left Chelsea mainly because he was frightened of being injured again by the rough and tumble of the Prem.

Robben would be a great acquisition if he could be relied upon unfortunately Chelsea, and now Real Madrid, lost patience with his unwillingness to play unless he felt 100% fit something which drove Mourinho crazy.
