Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor is stalling over a move to Manchester City because they are refusing to meet his wage demands of £170,000 a week.
The Togo international received a work permit yesterday but turned down the chance to undergo a medical as City continue to discuss terms with his advisers.
Adebayor is thought to be using City's status as a club outside the Champions League to insist on a wage that would make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League. Adebayor (right) missed the flight to South Africa for City's pre-season tour, which begins on Saturday.
However, City's football administrator Brian Marwood is in London today to continue talks and sources close to the club expect the £25million deal to be concluded by the end of this week.
Arsenal's search for a replacement has run into complications as their principal target, Bordeaux's Marouane Chamakh, insists he will not be rushed into deciding his next move.
Wantaway Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar remains a possible alternative but Tottenham are also monitoring the £17mrated Dutchman.
Agent Arnold Oosterveer left the door open for a move to Spurs by revealing the 25-year-old could be tempted to join a club outside Europe's elite.
He said: "There is more than just Champions League."

Adebayor, if u can't win CL with Arsenal, the funny spirit of players booing their superstar, i wonder if Arsenal will ever win CL before you retire from international football or die at 100 years, then go to City, enjoy the spirit, enjoy your football and make a hell of money.Arsenal should have let you go to Bacca last year and avoid you having to give up playing in CL for a year. I know your dream of winning it is still alive and I share it. You might just win something there with people who appreciate you. Ah, before I forget, we must be reminded that you are still the 30 goals a season banger, the best goalscorer in combined ACN-world qualifiers en route to 2006, one of the best goalscorers in the combined qualifiers en route to 2010, the scorer of the best gosl ever in CL and the current african football king... If Messi is booed at Bacca and Ronaldo at Man U, everyone would see the result. They are celebrated, Adebayor deserves the same.
God bless Adebayor and God bless every positive mind on earth... Jealousy and hatred pay not... Adebayor has achieved every single thing on the pitch, not off it... Long live fooball and the positive spirit that keeps the beautiful game alive.

i like arsenal, i've nothing against adebayor, i see him sometimes in my night club.
i like his football, but lets be honest guys, this man is worth no more than 80K a week!!!
i wonder where this 100 or 170K a week is coming from??
adebayor is an above average striker, thats all!!

fair point he can be lazy and selfish, but we no that he can net 30 goals, he had one bad season, lets sell him and get a player like Chamahk who is not prolific not quick not as aggressive...one more thing who out there is going to refuse the chance of doubling your income.. at least we have brendtner a player who couldn't hit a donkeys backside with a banjo

Can anyone inform me,do these greedy footballers get paid in the close season?
What would happen if we the people paying their wages was to stop contributing to Sky television, stopped buying the forever changing football gear and stopped going to matches.Would the greedy thoughless players then support their team and fans and not their bulging bank balance.

There is not a change in hell that CITY would pay anywhere near £170,000 a week for a player taht clearly wants to "fill his boots" unfortunately not with GOALS!!!!
- Yashin, Manchester Enland
Why on earth do we want to sign this player, now we have signed Tevez & Santa Cruz, as well as Bellamy & Benjani.
- Rob City, Manchester
What this prima donna is to thick/greedy to realise is next years World cup will produce as usual a plethora of players that will interest EPL clubs, and he will be old news, and whoever buys him now, will regret it. i agree with others views, lend him out to an inferior club, then flog him off to some Turkish club.

Taxi for Adebayor...

I want him to leave but i am worried that it might backfire, because there is a chance he could get 30 goals again, and last season could have just been a blemish. However he obviously dosnt want to play for us, so we have to sell him. the other point i am slightly concerned about is that Chamakh (if we get him) is unproven at this level so could, potentially be a flop, but wenger almost always gets his transfers right. So i do mostly trust him but there is a slight doubt. But £25-30 mill is a good price and hopefully wenger can buy a few players with that.

Sooner he goes the better.Money grabber who has no loyalty to any club.Man city will do well to finish in top 7.
- Richie, cork ireland
he has to go and he will go!! Can you imagine, if he decided to stay again until next season. He will get so much abuse from the fans. He will apologise and then all this crap will kick off again this time next year. He's a greedy bugger and we don't need him at the Emirates. Barry is also greedy, choosing City over Liverpool

When will this football madness come to an end?The sooner the better! Paying £170K per week to a very ordinary player is absolutely crazy and even Man City will not be so stupid surely?
- Alan, Chigwell.UK
I think he has the potential to still be a great striker. Season 2007/8 he could do no wrong (well almost no wrong) and then became self deluded. The pay deal negotiated at that time was excellent and probably deserved, but his application 2008/9 was completely lacking and Arsene must have regretted ( in hindsight) not taking the opportunity to make a reported £30 million for him.
He can't suddenly become a bad player but the one thing that will never change though is his attitude, he really believes he's up there with the very best and should be paid on a par with the top strikers in Europe. There must be more to him than we saw last season if only he wasn't so lazy. When this transfer falls through due to his (or his agent's) greed I can see no future for him at Arsenal as the fans who already don't like him will positively hate him and make his position at the club untenable. He's got to go and it must happen ASAP!!!

The greed of the man is unbelievable

Ade: My view
Why he is bad apple:
1) Bad attitude
2) Thinks he is Henry & Bergkamp, tries to do what they did., e.g., stand offside without any reason (no idea Henry had a purpose behind it) or try to curl the ball like Dennis, but ends it up in club level section.
3) Missis clear cut chances
4) Taking his time to sign for city like paddy used when RM wanted him, difference is that they have offered him double his double salary at arsenal, what is he waiting for, no one else is stupid to offer silly money
5) Made for city more money than sense
6) A lesser class Anelka. Had he stayed & wanted to learn could have been a great. Anelka made the mistake at 19, he is 25, Anelka is making up for lost time at Chelsea aged 30.

What a joke, he is not worth 170,000 a week, especially considering he sucked last season!
- Dirk Diggler, Soho, London
He seems to have made up his mind to leave. Adebayor staying will hurt the team spirit. I think we will be better without him. If he doesn't find a club, he should be loaned to a club outside of the EPL.
- Jayt, Watford, UK
Adebayor is the most overrated striker of all time and the role of football agents and valuation of players should be called into question. If Adebayor refused to accept £150,000 a week offered to him by Man City then he is missing out on a big opportunity of his life. Because if repeat the same form as last season he might as well forget big time salary. This is his moment and he should accept and leave. I honestly can not wait to see the back of him as he is one the laziest striker I have known. He is sluggish, can not dribble and missed hell of chances last season. So what is the hype about?

I wish he would hurry up and leave !!!! i want to see someone with KLASS !!!!

I would not pay the greedy useless"man" 70p.The frightening thing is he may stay.
- G.Diamond, Romford Essex
Forget him. We can do without him.
- City Boy In The City, London
He needs to go so we can move on bring the right candidate before the league kicks off.How much does he really think he is worth?
- Alex, Bristol
£170,000 a week? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ......... Knock a couple of noughts off and he'd still be overpaid!
- Paul, London
This is funny, the gooners are desperate to get rid of him and he thinks is the best player in the league.
Arsenal = comedy club!
- St, London
Arsenal fans are pleading with him to go. We need a serious stricker for the next session and not a trainee. Arsenal should give Chamakh a 5 day deadline to come over or forget it. If his club wants Silvestre, we should hand him over without delay. If no Midfieder is bought, Toure can fill that role.
- Kanayo, Lagos, Nigeria
Drop him and move on. If he thinks he is worth that sort of money, he is deluded.
- Bluemoon, Dublin, Ireland
if i were City i would tell this over hyped hyped,im the best striker,(in his own eyes) big headed and over rated guy too lump it,how if this is true he thinks he is worth a wage like that amount is incredible..not happy with 80k a week at Arsenal where he hardly set the world alight,he now thinks he should get double that..a typical e.g of a modern day footballer totally out of touch with reallity...pity a club abroad didnt come in for him but not one as big as he clearly thinks he is..he should remember where he came from until Wenger saved his sorry A$%e.good riddance to him
