Oh no, not again: Joe Cole’s return to fitness has again been put on hold because of a knee injury

Knee surgery puts Joe Cole’s recovery on hold again

Joe Cole will miss the start of the season after having surgery on a knee problem. The Chelsea winger had just returned to training after suffering a serious knee injury in January and is now set to spend another month on the sidelines after having an operation on a tear of the meniscus inside his knee yesterday.

Cole will now miss the club's pre-season tour of the United States, although Manchester City-target John Terry was with the squad when they flew to Seattle this morning.

The injury is a huge blow for Cole, who has been working hard on his recovery at the club's training ground throughout the summer and is about to sign a new four-year deal.
