Inter Milan and Barcelona discuss swap deal

17 Jul 2009

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has confirmed he is in talks with Barcelona over the possible transfer of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the Nou Camp in a deal which would see Manchester City target Samuel Eto'o move the other way.

Moratti met his Barca counterpart Joan Laporta last night to discuss the future of both players.

"It was interesting for them (Barcelona) to know something about Ibrahimovic, and talk about Eto'o, two players of the same quality," said Moratti on the club4s official website, www.inter.it.

"We are trying to see if it is possible to enter both players in a deal.

"This meeting was something that is born out of the friendship between two presidents, who are trying to figure out if there is a possibility that we can work together."

Ibrahimovic, who finished as the top scorer in Serie A last season, has been at the centre of transfer speculation in recent months with Barca, Real Madrid and Manchester United all reportedly interested.

The 27-year-old is under contract with the Nerazzurri until June 2013 but earlier this year expressed his desire to leave the club.

"With regards to Ibrahimovic I think it's an issue that has arisen because of the wishes of the player," said Moratti.

The Inter president would welcome the arrival of Cameroon international Eto'o, who has failed to agree a contract extension with Barca with his current deal ending next summer.

"If a deal could be made then it would involve both players," Moratti added. "We will see, there4s time."

Moratti confirmed the two clubs have finalised the transfer of Brazilian defender Maxwell to Barca, while Inter are also in talks to sign winger Alexander Hleb from the Catalan giants.

"We've completed Maxwell4s transfer," said Moratti. "I'm happy he is going to play at a big club like Barcelona because he is a great player.

"Now we are trying to complete Hleb4s transfer."
