Wanted man: Arsenal and Spurs are both thought to be interested in signing Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

Stuttgart end interest in Spurs target

23 Jul 2009

Harry Redknapp's interest in Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar looks set to be reignited after Stuttgart called off their bid to sign him.

Stuttgart pulled out of the move after refusing to wait for the Real Madrid striker to resolve a contract dispute with the Spanish club.

Stuttgart are thought to have agreed a fee for the Holland international, who only joined Madrid from Ajax in January for a fee which could have risen to 27 million euros.

But the move has hit the rocks on financial grounds.

Stuttgart sport manager Horst Heldt said in a statement on the club's official website, www.vfb.de: "We wanted to acquire Klaas Jan Huntelaar because his playing style fits very well with our team. But we are not about to keep ourselves hanging on and waiting."

The statement also revealed the club decided to pull out when an agreed-upon deadline came and went without a final answer as the player could not agree a package with Madrid for his contract to be terminated.

Huntelaar is also a reported target for Arsenal and Tottenham with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp admitting: "The lad is a very good goalscorer and I'm still interested in him.

"I know of Stuttgart's involvement but I'm hoping we will still be able to do something.

"There's a lot of talk about who I may or may not be after but Huntelaar is the one I like."

Is there any player anywhere that Spurs are NOT interested in? I can see us ending up with Heskey up front and Bramble at the back ................
