Jermain Defoe: Peter Crouch will give Spurs big lift

Jermain Defoe believes he can form a formidable partnership with Peter Crouch if he moves to White Hart Lane.

Portsmouth boss Paul Hart revealed yesterday they have accepted a bid from the north London club and a move could be finalised in the next 48 hours.

Defoe said: “I have always said that Crouchy is a great player and he is someone who will score goals. If you bring someone like that into the club it is only going to help.

“I have played with him for a number of years and I love playing with him. We have got a lot of fantastic players at the club and I'm sure everyone will look forward to him coming in.

“We play a bit differently away from home and I think bringing Crouchy in will help us. Sometimes you get difficult games and teams put you under pressure. You can't play football and sometimes you have to go long and be more direct.

“If you look at Crouchy's size and presence, he allows you to do that. If he does come in he will definitely help the team.”

The arrival of Crouch is certain to signal the departure of Darren Bent, who is a target for Sunderland.

Defoe admits he will be sorry to see his close friend leave the club.

He added: “When Darren is confident he is unstoppable. Everyone wants to play football so you can understand why he wants to go. If he does leave I wish him well.”

Another season of mid-table mediocrity with this over-rated and over-paid beanpole. Tick-tock Harry.

chris, i am spurs fan and know what players they need, watch spurs all the time, if they come up against a team that pressures them like Barcelona, then we have no one to be that midfield general, like Gazza used to be...
Spurs, alot of the players are fairly similar players..
why does harry leav it to the last minute, look at Man Utd got their players now, each one of them has taken part in the preseason build up..

I very much doubt that these comments are from Spurs fans, It is plain to see that we need a different option up front as Bent,Keane and Defoe are fairley similar players... (In that they are not really Target men)

Peter Crouch is a quality addition to our squad and will give us a different option... Fab Cappello Thinks the same because he's in the England squad, so he can't be too bad can he... All the true Spurs fans will get behind the TEAM.....and Trust in Harry, the rest of you can get back to you're own teams blogs or go and support someone else ( I hear there are seats going at the Death Star..)

Hey, you Spurs' fainthearts, reserve your bile for the gooners et al and give Harry a chance.

After watching the dull, boring non-event of the Wembley Cup and seeing two dire performances from Spurs i can honestly say that im not looking forward to the new season.
Got no Center Backs, yet again no LM, and no strikers who look like they could hit a barn door.
With the arrival of Crouch and more full backs from the lower leagues one can only assume that Mr Levy has finally given up on his ambitions to break into the top 4.
More mid table mediocrity beckons for all us Spurs fans!

Harry, well i said i don't knw what he is doing after watching Spurs over the weekend, we need a top quality midfield player.
Sorry, why but Crouch, instead of buying Huntelaar, Mr Levy remember with Berbatov? No lessons learned, let Bent go, at least he has played and not sulked!!

We need also another defender and its obvious..

Buying Crouch at 28 for £10m, and selling Hutton to a rival? This is not sensible business, I'm REALLY concerned.

...and presumably sell Bent, who scored more goals than Crouch last season! Please tell me he isnt signing Vierra, who only managed 15 league matches last season & 16 the season before, with Inter. He was ruined by Arsenal's Fabregas & Flamini when he played against them 3 seasons ago for Juventus. We were woeful against Celtic at the weekend & Im desperately worried about the forthcoming season. I certainly cant see us challenging the usual top four & will have a serious struggle to finish on top of Man City, Villa & Everston, which leaves us fighting for 8th place again.

Crouch, will set the Bo-Boys going at Spurs just sitting on the bench.
Sorry, Harry you do not know the fans at WHL., then it will probably then start on yourself.

This is another of Redknapps great signings. I've heard from my uncle who is a ticket collector on the 0657 from Pompey Harbour that he is also going to sign the Car Park Attendant, the bloke with one leg who sells programmes on Fratton High Road and the old bird who does the reserve team kit washing. We don't want this cart horse.
