Luis Boa Morte
Lengthy spell on sidelines: Luis Boa Morte is stretchered off

Boa Morte faces at least six months out

30 Jul 2009

Luis Boa Morte is unlikely to play again this year after suffering knee ligament damage during West Ham's 1-0 defeat by Tottenham in the Barclays Asia Trophy.

The striker caught his studs in the turf after a challenge with Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

While chasing a loose ball the 31-year-old appeared to accidentally tread on the Spurs defender before rupturing his knee as he tried to adjust his body.

There was no malice in the incident and the bizarre circumstances of the injury were typified by the resultant free-kick going against Boa Morte for his original challenge.

Boss Gianfranco Zola said: "It is a big blow for me."

When was the last time a West Ham manager did NOT have a long-term injury victim on the sides?

Genuine question.
