London calling: Moussa Sissoko could join Spurs

Spurs closing in on £12m deal for Moussa Sissoko

4 Aug 2009

Tottenham are confident they will sign Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko in a £12million deal.

Before leaving the club last year, former sporting director Damien Comolli recommended the France Under-21 international.

Since then, Spurs have been tracking the 19-year-old and have now stepped up their efforts after Patrick Vieira made it clear he will not move to White Hart Lane.

Sissoko's transfer will be funded by the £12m sale of striker Darren Bent to Sunderland, which should be concluded today.

More nonsense from captain Red & white moron - Despite Newcastle's financial position they have had little interest in the vastly overrated Bassong. During Newcastle's relegation season, I watched most of Newcastle's live matches & highlights, he appeared 30 times, was sent off twice, scored zero goals , whilst they conceeded 59 goals!

We need another CM because Jenas is consistently poor. And Livermore and Bostock aren't there yet.

Whilst a central defender would be nice, would it be a panic buy. Yep, if Wilson gets injured, we're a tad screwed but, you could've said that about the arse last year when Fabregas was injured. We have a chance to get a world class player in Klaas Jan Huntelaar. Harry's gotta do it. We need to grab him and his success will bring others. Why can't Lennon cross the ball? If I were ole Harry, that's all he'd be doing in training.

i saw this guy in live action last year,he is a great talent ,good engine and uses the ball well..obviously many people here are commenting with no idea who the guy is..all top sides have a solid midfield too protect the back4,and if he helps that, then so be it a great signing..if Bassong is not any good, then all these managers who want him are clearly not up to their jobs. And the boy has said he wants too come too Spurs so sources say..GET behind the club, even some you miserable lot

Honestly some of the fans here do not have a clue. Sorry to be so blunt. We need another hard central midfielder badly. What happens if Palacios gets suspended/injured? Then we are back to square one and you will be complaining that Harry did not get cover. Yes we could do with another defender but Bassong seems like he may be on the way. He can cover cb and lb and played very well last season considering he was forced to play with the donkey that is Coloccini.

Yes Ted you are right that is the type of player he is. He is 19 years old and is a truly fantastic prospect. He has been labelled as the new Diarra (Mama not Lassana) and quite rightfully so. Despite his age he was a constant starter in his club team (Toulouse) last season and has actually just been called up to the French national team.

Harry has done very well for the Spurs and is the reason why we are still in the Premier League. He has added steel to the team with Palacios. He does need to add a quality centre back as a priority, as I am sure he will. Another strong central midfielder would not go amiss. (benty thanks for your efforts) COYs

the better your midfield the less your full back have to do there's less pressure on them so you can get away with less able defenders i think thats harrys thinking good strong tackling midfielders that can win the ball and keep it should be able to hold the fort so to speak till the rest get fit

Good to see the Gooner, "Rob Hotspurs", up to his usual malignant tricks once again.

If, Rob, you knew anything about football [which you do but only when writing about the Goons]it does not follow that because a team was relegated that all of their players were useless. Or, if you are saying Bassong is rubbish, how many games did you see him play last season?

Is this the arsenal page or something? all perennially successful teams have strong midfield that not only controls the game when in possession, but also provides the 'shield' in front of the back four. If you don't know who performs this role for the likes of ManU, Chelsea, Liverpool then you need to watch more games and stop playing xbox. By solidifying centre midfield with more combative players, Harry IS strengthening the team's defence. Admittedly we need help at centre half too given injuries, but what Harry is doing is something that should have been done years ago!! A more legitimate complaint is Harry may give an opportunity to youngsters at the club (Livermore, Bostock) as Sissoko is barely older than what we have.

Just in case everyone has forgotten, Spurs had one of the best records in the EPL from January through May. Dear old “arry” does know what he is doing we just have to be a patient and see what he pulls off. We know we have to sell before we can buy; there are a lot more than Bent leaving I recon. All the players who took a tongue lashing are either sucking it up to get in his good books or they will be gone. Gomez was brilliant in Asia cup so maybe that’s the test here. He looked good even without Dawson King and Woody. Still lots of time before the window closes.

Comolli was hardly a success as a scout for Tottenham! Rednapp is worrying me, look at the financial mess he left behind at Portsmouth! Surely a couple of centre-backs are what we need desperately & not the woeful Bassong from relegated Newcastle, please.

Harry, i think you are confused, why buty these guys now?
We have 1 more game left before the scousers come to town and no defenders, i hope you do better than Ramos!
I see we need back up for Palacios, as Capt Black, said..

Is he a combative midfielder in the WP mould? Anyone out there (apart from Commolli) ever heard of him?

J Windsor - quite obviously what is going on, is the continuation of a process that began when Harry Redknapp became manager. As the Meerkats would say, "simple, tccch!".

Mark, he needs cover for Palacios, who picks up a lot of yellow cards and got a red at Blackburn when playing for us.
