Italian job: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will not be joining Tottenham

Tottenham miss out on AC Milan-bound Huntelaar

6 Aug 2009

AC Milan have reached a deal with Spurs target Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, ending the player's unhappy eight-month spell with at Real Madrid.

The Dutch striker is expected to travel to Milan later for a medical and to sign his new contract, Milan vice president Adriano Galliani said.

"We have a deal with Real Madrid," Galliani told Italy's Sky Sport 24 TV channel. "All that's missing is the player's medical exams and the economic agreement with the player."

Galliani did not disclose details of the deal with Madrid, saying only that Huntelaar would not be on loan but would transfer permanently to Milan.

The news marked a double blow for Harry Redknapp in the transfer market as French club Toulouse slapped a £25m price tag on midfield target Moussa Sissoko.

Michelle - As an Arsenal fan, I did not want to see Tottenham relegated, as I enjoy our derby matches, especially as I cant recall the last time we lost to Tottenham in a league match, possibly approaching 10 years ago. I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed watching Tottenham self destruct, when Martin Jol had done a superb job & was on the verge of pushing us for a top four place. Levy & Comolli between them managed to spend a fortune destroying all his good work. I was thrilled when Jol was sacked by Tottenham as I felt he could have mounted a sustained challenge for Champions League football. Now you have red faced Harry & I cant see any better than 6th place, despite spending a fortune since he took over.

Getting back to the subject of a pair of over-priced duds, Huntelaar (and Sissoko) - lucky, lucky Spurs!

I wouldn't criticise Levy. I think he has done his best in making decisions off the pitch but has been let down by those who make the decisions on the pitch . . . until recently. This summer especially, I think Levy has been excellent. With Harry's guidance we have bought very sensibly for positions that we needed addressing whilst also actually managing to rid ourselves of some of the chaff this time around. I am very happy with our dealings so far & I don't particularly give a monkeys that we've 'missed' Huntelaar. There are plenty of quality strikers out there & I'm really not convinced that KJH is suited to the EPL, especially as, outside the final 3rd, he seems to not exist.

Hey Rob not everyone feels that way about the "mighty" arsenal. And don't kid yourself Arenal fans were just dying to see Tottnham go down this year so back off!!

You lot are extremely amusing! The only one that talks any sense is the infamous South London boy, my brother.. Rob Hotspurs. You have the audacity to attack the mighty Arsenal, when you have lived in their shadow since the early 80's. Nearly 30 years of misery watching Arsenal collect trophies, develop superb training facillities & an awesome new stadium. Whist Arsenal have managed to keep top four whilst rebuilding their team, you have clung to fading dreams. Your current team is typical of Harry Rednapp's mis-matched concoction of ex-players who have failed miserably elsewhere, paceless individuals who couldnt get into any of the top four teams, so how on earth do you expect to! The only top class acts at Tottenham are Gomes, Lennon, Palacios & when fit King. The rest are a pretty ragged bunch. Prediction to remember you will not finish top 4 & in all likelyhood 6th is the position I envisage. Hence, 1.Chelsea 2. Man Utd 3. Arsenal 4. Liverpool 5. Man City 6. Tottenham.

Simon, Dublin: is your granny available? If so,on what terms?

On a serious note, I'm far from convinced we ever had a realistic chance of getting Huntelaar, who in a World Cup year wanted european football as a minimum.

Rob, Mark is a gooner, but its nice to see Arsenal are consistent in winning their only cup, no extra time, just points for goals as well...anyway, i agree with Simon, we needed certain players for awhile since Jol,Ramos and no manager has got these players in early, like we did with Modric and blend them in, getting these players now, it doesn't make sense.
Thats the other part of preseason...
Bent, well thanks and good luck, after listening to his interview, he was relieved, never heard the guy speak before, now, he is coming out of his shell. It seems some players who leav SPurs, don't do well, so he is another 1, who fall down the pecking order, these players don't have ambitions, just like babies, want to play and score, but cry if they lose their place
Spurs, Top 5, ahead of City..

Kevin sad name sad man - I have to repeat the fact that I am a Tottenham fan, as it apears that we are not allowed to criticise our team without being accused of belonging to the red & white team in London. Is it essential to live in a fantasy world to support Tottenham? I am entitled to voice my opinions especially in the disasterous way Daniel Levy has handled the club's affairs or is avoiding relegation & finishing outside of the extended european places satisfactory? Mind you I havent heard the usual nonsense, yet, this summer that we will finish above our rivals & qualify for the Champions League. Maybe reality is finally sinking in.

maybe Rob the happy as always Hotspur!! needs to go onto a life coaching website,to help him out with his long going misery, has he any positivity in his life, i think most true spurs fans know the top four is not in reach, yet!! yes we were close once, but staying there is far harder than getting there,Harry has done well in the past eight months and turned round a rudderless ship bigtime..and has bought well and sold what most fans believe players that were not good enough to play for him...come on u spurs

ah for crying out loud, this is the one person i really wanted at spurs!! the guy is a natural goalscorer, but typical spurs try and wait till the very last minute to get the cheapest possible deal!! ship off pav, hes wont start that many games and is a rubbish impact player from the bench, my granny could do better, huntelaar would have been ideal, now we'll probably just bring back rasiak!!!! on a positive tho, glad were getting basssong. when redknapp said he hadnt previously targeted to buy there, i nearly had to be sedated!! hello???? we needed a cb for the last two/three yrs!! now for a left sided player and id settle for luis fabiano

Rob Gooner. Just what is it that get's you off on this pretence that you are a Spurs Supporter.
By the very virtue of the fact that you constantly use the term 'As Tottenham fans' or 'Us Tottenham fans' you give yourself away as a Mr Jeckle/Mr Hyde individual. None of the other bloggers on this site need to reiterate that. I wonder why. Probably because they are Spurs Fans!
Constantly referring to Darren Bent as a good player and Bassong in negative terms and having a snipe at Daniel Levy is just pure 'poppycock'.
Why aren't you satisfied with just being Rob Gooner. You know you can support their Ladies Team as well. Or maybe you might qualify to play for them.
Get yourself a life.

Rob, Living in a dream world is one thing, looking at the bright side is another. I have no illusions about having a Champions League place and it's never easy being a Spurs fan but we are by no means heading for the scrapheap. To make the comeback we did last season, vying for Europe until the end was terrific by our Manager and our boys. Who would have thought Fulham would have made it? There's always hope. Chin up mate, enough of the doom and gloom!

Mark Essex - Very strange comments indeed! Keep taking the medication things might get better for you. As Tottenham fans I feel we should be honest to ourselves & not live in a dreamworld. You seem to have an unnatural obsession with our North London rivals.

Dear Rob Hotspurs, In fairness I could not see us staying up in the early part of last season. However we did and in fairness credit has to be given to HR. Moreso Spurs only just missed out on another European place for the coming season. Overall HR has worked wonders! Let’s have a little faith in our club and players and I think we might just be pleasantly surprised. I do believe that Harry will be giving more focus to the likes of our younger prospect and I can only see this as a positive and it's about blooming time as we have some real cracking youngsters coming through who are hungry and ready to be given the chance to shine. Rob (Hotspur/Gooner) - I would also be throughly depressed at the thought of another 4th place finish (maybe even 5th) and no silverware for yet another season (excluding the Emirates Cup of course). Still - its all about the eternal "potential" of youth, "maturity - this is the year blah, blah, blah" and how great the stadium is thesedays for Woolwich Wanderer fans isn't it ?

We only seem capable of signing second rate players. Hence the two Kyle's from Championship side Sheffield United & probably Bassong from relegated Newastle & Crouch from bound to be relegated Portsmouth. We then sell Bent a consistent goalscorer to Sunderland. I cant see us managing a european place this season & am thoroughly depressed.
