Fulham get mammoth Euro trek

07.08.09

Fulham face the longest trip possible in the Europa League after being paired with Russian Premier League side Amkar in today's play-off round draw.

Amkar are based in the city of Perm and are the easternmost club in a top division in Europe, meaning a 4,500-mile round trip for Fulham.

The Russians finished fourth in their domestic league last season but are only 12th this term.

The first leg will be played on 18 or 19 August with the second game a week later.

Other English teams hoping to make the group stages are Everton, who will play Czech side Sigma Olomouc and Aston Villa, who will face Rapid Vienna.

Fulham reached this stage with a 6-0 aggregate victory over Lithuania's FK Vetra.
