Nicklas Bendtner gunning for a new contract
12.08.09
Nicklas Bendtner has opened talks over a new contract and expects to agree a deal with Arsenal soon.
The 21-year-old, who joined from FC Copenhagen in 2004, is set to play an even bigger role this term following the sale of Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City.
Bendtner has been linked with a move away from Emirates Stadium but said: "Since I was 16 my ambition has been to play for the Arsenal first team.
"We are still talking and I hope that we can reach an agreement. There are, at least, no obstacles in the way."

Us fans have a love hate relationship with young Nic. He can leave you frustrated and pulling your hair out and then out of the blue score the winning goal or produce a bit of magic to set soemone up. However one thing is for sure when he puts on the red and white shirt(Ours not Denmarks)he wears it with pride and gives his best. On a tactical point we have fantastic options up front but they are all ball players we need another option and that is someone who is good in the air and a focal point/target man and he can do that job and link up play. We can't afford to let him go.

As the season gets closer and it looks like Wenger will not be buying a new striker, Bentner will have to step up,he is still young and I think there is still a lot to come from him.I personally think Wenger needs more up front but if he thinks what we have got is adequate I trust him,but if he does not buy and Arsenal have a bad season,I think the majority of fans will turn on him.I am a fan of Wenger, but cannot understand why he has not brought some cover this close to the start of the season,my guess is that the boardroom is where the problems lie not the managers bench.

Its important that every player in the first team signs a new contract with arsenal. I know bendtner is not a fan favourite but i believe he will get more goals this season. The coach needs to tell him to stick in the frontline. He is fond of falling too deep.
