Mark Hughes remains hopeful of bringing Joleon Lescott to Man City

Evening Standard   13 Aug 2009

Mark Hughes said today he has not given up hope of signing England defender Joleon Lescott.

The Manchester City boss has already had bids of £15million and £18m turned down by Everton, who have also rejected a written transfer request from the 26-year-old.

Hughes said: "We are still trying to speak to the people who will ultimately make the decision over whether or not the deal continues.

"Those conversations are still to take place but how long they will still be active is open to debate."

Emmanuel Adebayor, who has been on international duty with Togo this week, could miss Saturday's Premier League opener at Blackburn.

Hughes said: "He's got a slight issue with his groin which needs checking out."

No doesn't mean no until everybody at the club has said it, including the cleaning ladies and the boot boys. Hughes respects Everton but not enough to believe their Chairman when he says that Moyes decides who stays or goes, or Moyes when he says that Lescott is for sale. It's like if I want to buy your house and you refuse to sell, asking the gardener whether he'd be happy to sell. Respect! Apparently Hughes just can't believe there are people out there who are not swayed by mere money; what other reason can there be for him wilfully refusing to understand when no means no? No. Comprende? No.
