Ledley King hails quietly confident Spurs after a perfect start

Ledley King believes Tottenham can challenge the Premier League's top four after an impressive 2-1 win over Liverpool.

With all eyes on big-spending Manchester City's bid to break into the elite, Spurs have been virtually ignored but produced the perfect start at White Hart Lane. Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Sebastien Bassong scored as Harry Redknapp's side won for the first time on the opening weekend of the season since 2005.

Now King believes the lack of distractions — including European football — will give his team-mates the best chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

He said: “There's not been too much talk about us and the top four. For the last few seasons everyone has been talking about us doing this and that. It has been nice to say nothing and just work hard. With the quality we have got, we can break into the top four.

“We realise how tough it is after the last few seasons. But I think not being in the Europa League this season could help us. We have not talked about what we can achieve and we just want to take each game at a time and win as many games as possible. You never know, we might win the League!”

Ted, i see what you mean, but they do have a chance, after all we finished last season on a high, got a good start and we had a good record against the top 4.

Man City done us a favour, by buying everyone, so lets see, who knows...
We have finished in the top 5 before, last few seasons, we were tipped, but failed, now we have been the quiet ones this summer.

Cool it, Leds - Sunday was a great day out, and you and the boys did us proud, but it's away to Hull next, then on to the Hammers, and it's going to be tough.

Come on you Spurs!
