League reject bid for Crystal Palace replay

17 Aug 2009

Crystal Palace's plea to have their match against Bristol City replayed because of the phantom goal' was today rejected by the Football League.

Referee Rob Shoebridge disallowed the goal in Saturday's game, which City won 1-0, despite Freddie Sears's shot clearly bouncing out of the net.

Referees' chief Hackett has apologised to Palace for the mistake and temporarily relieved Shoebridge of his duties.

However, Football League Chief operating officer, Andy Williamson, said: “We cannot sanction a replay. In any match the referee's decision must be final, even in a case such as this where there has been an error of judgment. To do other otherwise would be contrary to the laws of the game.

“With regard to the use of goal-line technology, The League has been saying for some considerable time we would be happy to trial a prototype system in its competitions. However, until the law-making bodies of the world game sanction the use of any such system this cannot happen.”

City boss Gary Johnson says he had been told by the match assessor the goal was not given because of “an infringement”.

“Just after the ball went into the net, the linesman put his flag in to the air,” said Johnson.

Neil Warnock, now just sit down have a cup of tea and remember what game your playing. Remember how much money is involved. There, there be a good boy it will be all right in the end. The good guys always win, NOT!

Poor Neil Warnock. couldn't happen to a nicer bloke. he'll probably try and sue West Ham as Sears is on loan from them.

Mr Warnock stating that the world is against him.
That's something unusual and new.
Saying that FA, Premier League, Football League always favour the London teams against the poor locals from the provinces. That's unusual and new.
Er...........Crystal Palace may be from the provinces, but I don't think Bristol is in London.

Why did he give a goal kick then mr. johnson??
And what were mcallister and hartley pointing at and telling the linesmen just before they gave said goal kick, certainly not that it not only crossed the line line but hit the back of the net!

Johnson's not just a cheat he's self-satisfied, smug and needs hounding out of professional football

Gary Johnson just won't give up - thats the third time he's changed his story. His players surrounded the ref and linesman to con them that the ball had not gone in the goal.
