Back of the net: Scott McDonald scored in Celtic's victory over Dinamo Moscow in the previous qualifying round

We'll cause upset against Arsenal, says Celtic striker

18 Aug 2009

Scott McDonald claims Arsenal's stunning start to the season will count for nothing in their Champions League clash.

Arsene Wenger's side are favourites to reach the group stage of the Champions League for the 12th consecutive time but McDonald believes past victories over AC Milan, Barcelona, Manchester United and Liverpool prove Celtic can stifle their freescoring opponents.

"Its easy to look at their win at Everton and think, 'How do you stop that?' But we are quite confident and will be positive," said the Australian striker. "Playing the big teams has brought the best out of us.

"We're at home and with the crowd behind us we can go at them. We can get on the ball and dominate possession in the early stages to put our stamp on it.

"We all know Arsenal are a very good team and like to keep the ball but we can upset them and make sure they can't play."

McDonald, who scored in Celtic's victory over Dinamo Moscow in the previous qualifying round, added: "We know we can win it. All the players are hungry for success and want to play against top-level European opposition."

Load of rubbish from all the Scottish newspaper and tabloids. All those comments like having cunning plans, fans will blow Arsenal away, will certainly upset Arsenal, etc, etc, etc ! I suggest just keep those newspapers and mouth shut quietly and if the result is in Celtic's favour then the whole of Scotland can blow their trumpets and trambones until the roofs fell. All these boasting will leave everyone sour and red faced if Arsenal is the winner. I think the only plan for Celtic logically is to play in your dirtiest way, commit fouls and two-legged sliding tackles from behind, elbow and knee when referee not watching, pull shirt and shorts and most important of all, intimidate, bully and threaten the referee and linesman. Anyway the whole world is watching how Celtic play tonight !
