Hitting the target: Robert Snodgrass scored both goals for Leeds

Malky Mackay hails his defeated 'warriors'

26.08.09

Malky Mackay hailed his young Watford side as "warriors", despite seeing them crash out of the Carling Cup with a 2-1 defeat at Leeds.

The Hornets boss fielded a largely second string team at Elland Road and paid the price as two goals from Robert Snodgrass earned the League One side a place in the third round.

Mackay, who saw Marvin Sordell net his first goal for the club to take the tie into extra-time, said: "Overall I look at my group and I see a team of warriors who really gave their all for the club. They threw everything at Leeds. They're a big club with a big tradition."
