Eidur Gudjohnsen signs for Monaco in £1.8m deal

1 Sep 2009

Monaco have reached an agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of Eidur Gudjohnsen to the French club.

The fee for the 30-year-old Iceland international could rise to £1.8million depending on performances, the Spaniards have confirmed.

Gudjohnsen joined Barca from Chelsea in 2006 and although he was unable to tie down a regular first-team spot at the Nou Camp, he played 72 league games and helped the Catalan giants win the Champions League, Primera Division and Copa del Rey last season.

Mickey mouse league, Monaco are nothing these days. Obviously went for the money / easy life rather than come back to the Premier when several clubs were interested and actively pursuing him.

Follow-the-money and you'll find Eidur; a very canny chappy.

Superb player - and for only 1.8 million and he is still only 30 years old! Good luck to you Eidur - hope all goes well in Monaco!
