Rangers seal Jerome Rothen deal

1 Sep 2009

Rangers have completed the signing of Jerome Rothen from Paris St Germain on a one-year loan deal.

The 31-year-old left winger has become the Clydesdale Bank Premier League champions' first signing for more than a year.

Ibrox boss Walter Smith had identified the left side of midfield as a problem and Rothen - capped 13 times by France - has been earmarked to fill that void.

Regarded as a dead-ball specialist, the player was a star of Monaco's run to the 2004 Champions League final, his performances earning him a move that summer to PSG.

He was also a member of France's European Championship squads in 2004 and 2008.

Rangers have shipped out 10 players this summer in a bid to cut costs and they had looked unlikely to bring anybody in.

But they were reportedly alerted to Rothen's availability following the collapse of his permanent move to German side Schalke.
