Gael Kakuta probe just tip of the iceberg, insists FIFA chief

Sepp Blatter has warned Chelsea's transfer ban is just the start of a crackdown on player poaching and that Europe's elite clubs should be running scared following FIFA's tough stance.

Last week Chelsea became the first side to be slapped with a 16-month embargo after they were found guilty of luring French youngster Gael Kakuta.

But FIFA president Blatter believes the draconian ban handed down at Stamford Bridge is just the tip of the iceberg.

Speaking today for the first time about the Chelsea punishment, Blatter said: "This is just the start. We have to protect the young players.

"There are many cases on our desk at FIFA. We have one we have settled but there are clubs looking at their books who have already announced that such and such player has no contract with them or is an amateur.

"The case we decided was one with a player going from France to England.

"The clubs take 14 or 15-year-olds and say their parents are coming with them. But they don't and the players are placed with other families. Then what happens to these players?

"Only one in 15 or 20 goes through, so we have to protect them and their futures. Most of these cases we have are from Africa to Europe or South America to Europe.

"The president of the Brazilian Federation even told me recently I have to stop the exodus of young players."

Chelsea are still reeling having been banned from signing players until 2011, after being found guilty of enticing teenager Kakuta from Lens.

The club plan to launch an appeal against the decision and have vowed to take their claim to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

But Blatter was quick to warn that the Blues won't be the last major club brought to book. He added: "We now have a committee where each case is dealt with individually."

Italian club Fiorentina are the latest considering a formal complaint to FIFA, over the signing of 16-year-old defender Michele Fornasier by Manchester United.

The club have made initial contact with FIFA but no investigation has yet been launched.
