Missing out: Emmanuel Adebayor has been given a three-match ban for stamping on Robin van Persie

Emmanuel Adebayor handed three-match ban

17 Sep 2009

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor will miss this weekend's Manchester derby after the Football Association confirmed a three-match ban for the striker for stamping on Robin van Persie.

The FA also confirmed the ban will begin immediately, ruling him out of City's match at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Adebayor had admitted the charge and was dealt with under the FA's fast-track disciplinary system.

A separate charge of improper conduct, brought after the former Arsenal player ran the length of the pitch to taunt Gunners fans with a goal celebration, will be considered at a later date.

The FA said in a statement: "A regulatory commission today considered the charge of violent conduct issued against Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor under the fast-track disciplinary procedure following an incident with Robin van Persie during their fixture against Arsenal on the 12th September.

"Taking into consideration Mr Adebayor's acceptance of the charge of violent conduct the regulatory commission have ordered that he serve a three-match suspension from all football, commencing Thursday 17th September.

"A separate charge of improper conduct will be considered at a later date."

City may contest the improper conduct charge - they have until September 30 to respond to that allegation.

Oh stop being such a martyr, it's embarrassing. Perhaps you'd like the game played again and Arsenal awarded six points (and travelling expenses).

Adebayor got what he deserved, now let's have all the week's Citeh fans come on this thread and tell us how they're all still backing him, we can all have a laugh and look forward to the weekend.

The club aren't even appealing - turns out it really IS only Hughes (and every Citeh fan, natch) who seems to think there was nothing in it.

that was maliscious by adebayor and i think the punishment too light- he should have been banned for 6 games, fined and if he repeats the offence again, he should be banned from playing in england.
having said that , he is a superb striker but cannot allow his emotions to get the beter of him.

alternatively, Van persie could and perhaps should have been booked for that tackle. if he had broken the man's leg would you have said "serves him right for leaving"?

come on he was a hero, but he got stick from our supporters and players - how many tackles did he have to ride. when he was with us he was great.

He got what he deserved after showing utter disrespect to a former teammate and showed his violent traits. It's a pity that the team which suffered most out of all this, Arsenal, don't get any reprieve but the only teams to benefit will be Man City's nect opponents. Had Adebayor been sent off during the match, the result would probably have been much different. The FA must see how to compensate the teams that suffered directly, such as banning Adebayor from playing against Arsenal when they meet at the Emirates.
