Losing battle: Fernando Torres beats James Tomkins

We'll get it right, insists West Ham star

James Tomkins insisted there is no reason to press the panic button despite West Ham suffering their worst League start in seven years.

Two-goal Fernando Torres inspired Liverpool's 3-2 victory on Saturday that left the Hammers with just one win and four points from their first five games.

But centre-back Tomkins said: "We played a lot better today than last week.

"If we play like that, I don't think we will have any trouble climbing up the table. We need to show that form week in, week out and learn from this quickly and improve."

Alessandro Diamanti's penalty cancelled out Torres' opener and Carlton Cole equalised after Dirk Kuyt restored the Reds' lead but Torres headed the winner 15 minutes from time.

The Hammers take on Bolton in the Carling Cup tomorrow with both Matthew Upson and Valon Behrami, in his first start following a serious knee injury, set to miss out.

The pair each lasted less than half an hour against Liverpool before succumbing to injury.

Meanwhile, West Ham and Millwall will learn of their fate this week as the Football Association prepare to charge both clubs over violence at their Carling Cup tie in August.

Hundreds of West Ham fans invaded the pitch and a Millwall fan was stabbed outside Upton Park.

The Premier League club can expect a hefty fine and the possibility of playing a match behind closed doors. Millwall face a smaller fine and may be put on 'probation' with a warning about fans' future conduct.
