David Bentley's given another chance to shine

Harry Redknapp has challenged David Bentley to rescue his Tottenham career at Preston tonight after a disastrous first year at White Hart Lane.

The former England midfielder is set to be in the starting line up as Redknapp takes the opportunity to rest some of his key men for the Carling Cup third-round tie at Deepdale.

When Bentley joined Spurs in a £15million deal in the summer of 2008, the idea of him being a fringe player little more than 12 months later was unthinkable. But poor form on the pitch - and off-field incidents such as being charged with drink-driving this summer - have left Bentley wondering if he had a future.

"David doesn't see a lot of light at the end of the tunnel at the moment," said Spurs boss Redknapp.

"He sees Aaron Lennon playing very well and he will only get in the team by performing, working hard and showing a good attitude.

"I don't know what I can say to him except to keep working hard - and that when his chance comes he's got to take it. Tonight is another chance for David, so it's up to him to come in and play well."

There will also be outings tonight for Giovani Dos Santos, Gareth Bale, Peter Crouch and goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, all of whom are likely to be given run-outs.

Giovani looked certain to be on his way out of the club during the summer after failing to impress Redknapp.

But the manager has been delighted with the former Barcelona man's improved attitude. He added: "He didn't look after himself, but now he is doing so. He is much fitter than he was when I took over."

So long as Keane dont start then i'll be happy.
Cant believe Keane still get's ahead of Crouch or Pav in the pecking order. Looking forward to Dos Santos cos he's one player who i think has huge potential.
