Mark Hughes's relief over Emmanuel Adebayor

02.10.09

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has expressed his relief after Emmanuel Adebayor escaped a further ban for his controversial goal celebration against Arsenal.

The FA accused Gunners fans of provoking Adebayor after giving the City striker a two-match suspended ban and £25,000 fine.

Adebayor is now available for City's Premier League trip to Aston Villa on Monday, as the ban will only be triggered for a similar breach of FA rules before December 2010.

Hughes said: "There has been a lot said and written about Emmanuel's goal celebration. We are just glad to put it all behind us now and I am relieved he will be able to play at Aston Villa on Monday night.

"Manu was in great form before his suspension and having him available again is a huge boost to us."

The 25-year-old has already served a three-match suspension for violent conduct in a separate incident during the victory at Eastlands last month, although there was the possibility of further action after he sprinted the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of visiting fans following his headed goal.

It is understood the Togo striker was at Wembley to admit a charge of improper conduct to an FA regulatory commission hearing.

"In reaching its decision the commission took into account his admission of the charge, public apology and the extremely provocative nature of the abuse he received," read an FA statement.

Pete ...
your opening a can of worms.
I was just commenting on the Adebayor let-off.
Not the others thay you pointed out. Too much like work for the FA.

Malc, inconsistent in what way? Presumably you mean inconsistent because they actually DID punish Adebayor for celebrating when they DID NOT punish Van Persie for repeatedly swearing at City fans when he scored in the same match, for NOT punishing Gary Neville for running half the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of City supporters in the Derby the following week or for NOT punishing Thierry Henry a few years ago for an IDENTICAL pitch length dash and celebration in front of Spurs fans at Highbury. Or maybe you mean the inconsistency that West Ham and Milwall HAVE been punished for their supporters' misbehaviour recently whereas Arsenal HAVE NOT been punished for their supporters throwing missiles and knocking a steward unconscious when Adebayor dared to celebrate his goal. Is that what you mean? Thougt not...

The FA are pathetic, what a let off, the fine is peanuts to him and a suspended sentence means nothing.
The FA are so inconsistant its not true.
