John Terry: Route to South Africa won't go via easy street

John Terry admits there is no chance coach Fabio Capello will allow England to take things easy and let their World Cup qualifying campaign end on a whimper.

England take on Ukraine and Belarus in their final two World Cup qualifiers over the next week having already secured their place in next summer's tournament.

Capello's side have won all eight of their matches so far and have only the challenge of maintaining their 100 per cent record to play for.

But Terry insists no player will dare to let their standards drop and said: "It is important we finish the campaign strongly and that is what the manager stressed to us after we beat Croatia to qualify.

"There is still an awful long way to go and an awful lot of improvements within the squad that the manager has stressed he wants already and we will be aiming to do that. He is very tactically aware and makes sure no stone goes unturned. If he forgets something, he gets annoyed with himself and makes sure the players are aware of the situation. The job is not done yet."

Chelsea left back Ashley Cole and Portsmouth keeper David James are expected to take part in training today after missing out on the opening session when the squad got together at Arsenal's training ground yesterday.

Cole was excused as a precaution so he could further rest the minor knee injury he sustained in Chelsea's defeat at Wigan 11 days ago, while James was nursing a minor problem.

Keeper Joe Hart and defender Gary Cahill will also join in having being called up following the withdrawl of Paul Robinson and Joleon Lescott respectively.
