Frank Lampard’s greatest moments

Will Robson
12 Oct 2009

Saturday marked 10 years of international football for Frank Lampard. In the light of this great milestone we take a look at five of the greatest moments from his footballing career.

England debut 10th October 1999 vs Belgium

Lampard's international career began in 1999 and although he has had his ups and downs - he missed out on the Euro 2000 and the 2002 World Cup – he is now an integral part of the team. On top of this he has overcame the abuse he suffered from many England fans following his inability to score in the 2006 World Cup and is now again a fan favourite.

2004/5 FWA Footballer of the year Chelsea first won league

This was his first great personal award and at the time he was dubbed the greatest midfielder in Europe by Johan Cruyff.

16 February 2008 scored his 100th goal for Chelsea

He solidified his reputation as a superb goal scoring midfielder when he netted his 100th Chelsea goal. His goal scoring exploits have earned him great praise even from Sir Alex Ferguson who called him “exceptional” in 2009.

Goal vs Hull City Scolari called it the Greatest Goal he'd ever seen

Lampard has become famous for the number of goals he scores from midfield. This strike has gone down as one of the greatest of his career and was labelled by his then manager Felipe Scolari as the greatest goal he'd ever seen. Lampard is best known for scoring powerful strikes from outside the box making this delicate chip perhaps even more remarkable.

400th League appearance for Chelsea vs Stoke

Despite having only been at Chelsea since 2001, on 17th January 2009 Lampard made his 400th appearance for Chelsea. Fittingly he scored the winner in injury time. This amazing volume of appearances in such a short amount of time is as a result of his remarkable fitness levels and eagerness to play.

After 10 years at the top, I still do not understand why he is so highly rated. He has no pace, no close ball control and no trickery to pass any defenders. He always pushes the ball to the right before whacking it and is so predicatable. I dont understand why not more goal keepers see it.
